Collection: Shu-Chen Cheng

Shu-Chen is originally from Taiwan; she lives and works in Hamilton, Ontario. She is primarily self-taught and works with clay, currently in the Raku style. Shu-Chen has participated in numerous exhibitions and won the award of excellence from the Burlington Potter's Guild in 2003. She has received commissions and her work is in permanent collections. In 2008, her raku work was purchased by the Hamilton Airport and is on display at the International Arrival Hall. Shu-Chen values the self-realization involved in working with clay. She states that "working with clay has brought (her) much joy in life". She considers her unique ceramic works as her "diary written in clay" and considers it her goal to "pursue excellence through her art, and that is (her) offering to the people". Raku pieces are strictly ornamental and are not food-safe.
