Matt emigrated from Poland to Canada in 1985. Apprenticed by his father as a stonewheel engraver, he pursued his interests and studied in the Hot Glass Program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario where he teaches the art of engraving. Matt absorbs his inspiration from the "systems and mechanisms of the natural and human world and where these elements intersect". Matt is regarded as a master of glassblowing and stone-wheel engraving traditions and may invest over thirty hours to engrave a single, small piece through stone-wheel engraving. After many years of teaching he moved back to Poland and from 2014 he is a freelance glass artist working in Cracow.
