The material teaches the artist – this Laurie learned from the sibilant song of her glass cutter as she scored graceful lines across sheets of unique art glass. After acquiring a dedicated workspace of her own in 1996, she began freeing the stories suspended in the vitreous material by carefully reconstructing the artful tales through configurings of placement, measured considerations of glowing colours and co-mingling of the inviting textures and sweeping grains found in each beautiful glass shard. Since 2007 Laurie has shared her knowledge and the inspiring beauty of art glass with her community through workshops offered at Grand River Glassworks, her Kitchener teaching studio and retail store. At Grand River Glassworks the studio is bright, the kilns are hot and the atmosphere is welcoming – visit today!
