Waterloo, On
John has a long-standing career in the visual arts. A graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo, John has extensive experience in printmaking, public sculpture, ceramics, art education and graphic design. Recent work explores the association between the manufactured and natural environment, particularly the affinity artifacts of human activity develop for their surroundings over time. His studio work has an industrial aesthetic softened by a subtle integration of organic design elements, richly textured surfaces and muted colour. John’s work is influenced by the landscape and environment of Keels, Newfoundland where he has maintained a summer home and studio since 1977. While there, his artistic activities focus on macro-photographic studies of human intervention in the landscape and site-specific installations that reconfigure and re-contextualize found objects within the natural environment.
