Collection: Jay Burn

Before he discovered clay, Jay was enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Guelph and also studied theatre in Blue Lake, California. In 1995, Jay graduated from Sheridan College School of Craft & Design. He immediately went into the pottery business and began a functional line of colourful pottery.

He is best known for his mastery of the distinctive crystalline glazing technique. This is a process where the zincbearing glaze changes during firing, developing beautiful crystal forms resembling frost blooms. With this type of glaze, the kiln temperature must be carefully controlled to allow the crystals to develop. This slow, complex process results in one-of-a-kind pieces – no two works will ever be the same!
