Collection: Gord Brown

Gord Brown, a Cambridge, Ontario artist, graduated from the fine arts program at the University of Guelph and Althouse teacher’s college in London, Ontario. Gord creates intricate hanging glass designs and glass and copper lamps. Gord uses a blow torch to explode large glass pieces, jackhammered from huge glass furnaces, searching for the unusual and unblemished pieces that will work in each piece. According to Gord, he “wanted to do something other than painting, drawing and printmaking. That something turned out to be glasswork. The evolution of my work brought me to what I do now, which is to explore the effects of light passing through various textures of clear glass, including bevelled glass, which I use in my lamp designs. The clear glass affords an always changing look to the piece, depending on the changes in light at various times of the day, and seasons of the year.”
