Angela McKay has had a passion for the arts since she was a little girl. Her work, pottery, sculpting, photography, and painting, is inspired by her love of trees, flowers, and nature. Through her careful placement of elements and colour, her original creations display a keen sense of composition and artistry. She uses both wheel-thrown and hand-building techniques for her functional and decorative pottery. Each pottery piece is handmade and unique. While she often uses the same glazes, results may vary from one firing to the next due to different firing conditions, variable temperatures, and even the weather. She fires in reduction atmosphere kilns and says that each kiln opening is like Christmas as she never knows exactly what she is going to get and is sometimes happily surprised! All of Angela’s functional pieces are high-fire stoneware which is microwave and dishwasher safe. Many of her decorative pieces are low-fire raku ware, in which she uses a primitive outdoor fire & smoke method that produces distinctive metallic glazes of copper and gold luster.
